Greece has shown really great music productivity in many genres over the years. However, not all of these bands come from the capital of Athens. Telma is one of them. They come from the city of Larissa.
Although the band is very newly formed, they seem to speed up a lot and within only a few months of existence they just released their debut album Eternal. Like many bands of our times they decided to self-release the album. What we listened on the Eternal digipack CD is nothing less than good music!
Telma perfectly balance their old school and modern music influences to produce their heavy/groove metal. In Eternal you will discover all these influences from heavy metal, thrash, nu metal to progressive rock. Their lyrics are also very well balanced between social and personal problems.
The production of the album seems to be based on the 90’s heavy music productions, but comes with fresh ideas. However, the production alone can never really uplift an album, if the performance is not good. Telma are great players on their instruments and as a whole. They are tight together as a band and produce a live feeling in the recordings.
The songwriting is based on original ideas and has the band’s own, personal aesthetics. The sonic fusion of the genres they love appears in their music in a unique way. The riffs are low-tuned, aggressive and passionate. The vocals are mind-blowing and colorful.
Just please check out the band’s first videos for Perfect Storm and Bipolar Distress, 2 of the album’s greatest moments. Both are great examples of Telma’s heavy, aggressive, modern metal with clear and emotional vocals that stick right to your brain. The music is memorable and makes you want to listen to it again and again. The album has a great flow and all songs have something to give the listener.
Eternal is a very nice debut release and it surprises me to know the band has been together only for a few months before the making of this album. If that’s the case, then I believe they have much more to give in the future. However, Eternal is a fantastic debut album in itself, an album that many bands out there would like to have released. It seems like there is something in the Greek water that helps bands like Telma being so special! Modern metal and heavy/prog fans, check out Telma and Eternal right away! You will be pleasantly surprised from the Greeks!
