Caelestia is back to reclaim their throne within the international metal circuit with their latest full-length studio offering, Revelations In Black. Originating from Athens, Greece, the band has undergone a profound sonic transformation that bridges the gap between the melodic Gothenburg sound and the mechanical precision of American death metal. For this ambitious project, the group traveled to Castle Ultimate Studios to work under the direction of acclaimed American producer Zack Ohren, whose resume includes heavy hitters like Machine Head, Six Feet Under and Immolation. The resulting record is a masterclass in modern extreme metal that balances technical accuracy with atmospheric depth.
The current lineup features the dual guitar assault of Bill Thomas and Andrew Geo, supported by the foundational low end of bassist Stelios Tragos. However, the most striking addition to the roster is legendary drummer Marc Reign, formerly of Morgoth and Destruction. His veteran experience and rhythmic complexity elevate the compositions to new heights of professional excellence. Vocalist and lyricist Pantelis “Lordwinter” Daskalelos leads the charge with a vocal performance that matches the “sophisticated brutality” of the production.
Lyrically, the album explores dark psychological states, gothic literature, and historical narratives. The title track, Revelations In Black, draws direct inspiration from the vampire fiction of Carl Jacobi, specifically his story of the same name. Daskalelos adapted his own poetic musings on “The Beautiful Dead” to create a narrative that fits the haunting, aggressive music of the track perfectly. This intellectual depth is a hallmark of the band’s new identity, moving away from their symphonic origins toward a more guitar-driven, melodic black and death metal fusion. The track Dead Eternal serves as a poignant tribute to the late Per Yngve “Pelle” Ohlin, the iconic Mayhem vocalist known as Dead. Inspired by the collection of personal correspondence titled Letters from Dead, the band sought to honor the dreamer behind the persona, looking past the psychological struggles to the artist underneath. In contrast, the song Wolves takes a grittier, historical turn. The lyrics center on the Werwolf organization active at the end of World War II, examining the tragic consequences of political propaganda and the brainwashing of youth during the collapse of the Third Reich.
With artwork provided by Elena Vasilaki, the visual aesthetic of the album complements the dark mythological and metaphysical allegories found within the music. Caelestia has spent years touring across Europe and the UK, and that grit is evident in every riff of this ten-song collection. Revelations In Black is not just a continuation of their previous work; it is a total immersion into a new musical identity. Fans of At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity will find much to admire in this rebirth. The album was released on July 24, 2026, via Eclipse Records.
