WINTER’S VERGE – album “The Ballad of James Tig” (September 11 2020, Pride & Joy, Germany)
“The Ballad Of James Tig” is the new album recorded and released by Winter’s Verge from Cyprus! They are quite known in the power metal scene and they can be considered as one of the best bands of the “new wave” of power metal. Surely I can assure that this is their best album.
Quite different from their past works and it looks like a better version of their last album. They added more symphonic parts and female vocals to spice it up! The production of the album seems to be their best ever. The band didn’t record an album with bad production, but now they are back with more logical thought and catchy arrangements. Writing about music content I have to mention about front cover, it is strictly connected with lyrics, I wonder about the way of realization of this picture.
After two great tracks that can remind the best vocal moments of Kamelot and Savatage, my top favorite song “Dead Reckoning” shines. Probably one of the best Winter’s Verge compositions. Piano and symphonic elements make an ideal combination with crushing riffs and melodic vocals. Great solo and then there is the climax of the album with epic vocals and fast riffs.
One of the best aspects of “The Ballad of James Tig” is how fresh everything sounds. “Timeless” and “I Accept” are unlike anything the band has written before. The two aforementioned songs are also among the best of this great album with majestic vocals and beautiful harmonies.
Another big highlight of the album is the video clip song “Blood On The Foam”. It has a dramatic build-up and music that stirs the emotions in many different directions.
No doubt Winter’s Verge is one the best modern power metal bands. I know that their last albums would not predict that majestic moment but I can see here evolution in proper and under control direction. “The Ballad Of James Tig” is not a usual album. This is a deep and sophisticated work full of pure quality!
