In the current metal scene, the name Alexx Panza is not entirely unknown, after all he sang on the last Hitten studio album »While Passion Lasts« (2023) as well as »Souls Of The Innocent« (2022) by Jack Starr’s Burning Starr. His latest baby is now called Vigilhunter. The band has signed a contract with High Roller Records for their debut album. In addition to the Hitten singer, who also plays rhythm and lead guitar, Mirko Negrino on bass, Mattia Itala on second guitar and Marcello “Cell” Leocani behind the drums complete the line-up. “This new project has never been discussed in public before,” explains the singer. “A few years ago a demo version of ‘Shadow Rider’ was uploaded to the Internet, but after that the whole thing was put on hold for a few years. In the recent past we decided to finish the work because the material has a lot of potential. The current line-up has brought new enthusiasm to the project, which ultimately led to a full release.” And what a debut album Vigilhunter has managed to create! Compositions such as “Disconnected”, “Titan Glory” or “Sacrifice” are some of the best songs that Queensryche never wrote. Alexx Panza feels flattered: “I take that as a huge compliment. Of course we are heavily influenced by Queensryche, but we could never write songs that sound 100% like them – that’s an impossible thing. This project is characterized by diverse influences, stylistically it cannot be broken down into a specific band. We are far from wanting to reinvent the wheel, but I do think that we have our own identity as a band. I can say that a lot of work went into the record and we are extremely happy with the end result. I can hardly wait to see how the record is received out there. I think, however, that all fans of original US power metal will enjoy the album.” This is highly likely, because in addition to Queensryche, Vigilhunter also has a little bit of Crimson Glory and early Fates Warning in its repertoire. Alexx Panza laughs: “So you have identified the reference points pretty accurately. That is exactly the sound and atmosphere that we want to capture. Add a dash of Savatage and Vicious Rumors. Sometimes, however, song ideas come from areas that you would not have expected.”
