VANENO – EP “Struggle Through Absurdity” (27 November 2021, Raging Planet Records)

For me, a dedicated fan of Crowbar and sludge metal in general, this band from Portugal that started their journey in 2017 was a big surprise!

Struggle Through Absurdity” marks the debut EP for the Portuguese band and their style is often slow, and their sound, well, it’s often pretty fat, consisting of big doomy notes and great chugging chords.

When you’re a band that has never released anything, no one should be expecting the stars. But these guys from Portugal seem to be very honest about their music and know how to write very interesting songs. Something that is really difficult when we talk about this brutal style that is called sludge metal.

Recently the band released the official video for the track “Nightrider” that is the best song out of this great EP, but don’t forget to check all the other songs, too.

The sheer density of the production is the first indicator that VANENO put a lot of effort on their work. Impressive vocals, beautiful guitars and a very tight rhythm section make them a really competitive band of this kind of music.

With one of the heaviest and more emotional debuts in sludge metal for the last year VANENO seem able to make a lot of heads turn to them. It depends if they will have the patience and the courage to continue. Rest assured that they will win your interest!
