While we are still early in the 2023, it won’t change the fact that I took notice of the Valiant Sentinel a bit late. The newly formed band from Athens, Greece, released a couple of months ago its self-titled debut album, an exciting power metal work.

With Valiant Sentinel you get, exactly, what you see, no more, no less.  Crusades, victorious battles, legendary warriors and all the things epic and glorious are the inspiration for the Valiant Sentinel. All the subjects that have been inspiring the genre for years can be found in the lyrics and in the theme, with the band taking the “classic” approach with their music. They remain loyal to the power metal genre, with single, successful, goal to offer their own take on the sound.

Employing beautiful and epic lead melodic lines, sharp, fast-paced guitar riffs, bright, grand choruses and that feeling of grandeur that the quality power metal sound, often, has, the Valiant Sentinel emerge into the scene with a record of pure power metal fury and heavy metal sharpness. There is no doubt that the Valiant Sentinel have been influenced by the ‘80s, yet this whole endeavor feels fresh and exciting, and never an imitation or an effort to copy the classics. The Valiant Sentinel find balance between their own ideas and the traditional sound and create a sound and an album that feels nostalgic and familiar, yet exciting and fist-pumping at the same time, as well.

And if that hasn’t intrigued you enough, let me tell you about the two great and prestigious guests that the Valiant Sentinel have in their debut. Fabio Lione and Tim “Ripper” Owens appear in the tracks “Forelorne” and “King in the North”, offering their unique and signature vocal qualities in two of the best compositions of the album.
