“We’ve Risen Again” feels both powerful and symbolic. What does the title represent for Tidal Dreams at this stage of your journey?
This song is both a real challenge and a safe place for our journey. It was composed and released during the COVID lockdowns and written by all the current band members. It is longer than our previous works and a result we are truly proud of. We hope our fans feel the same.
Your sound blends classic heavy metal elements with a modern creative drive. How do you balance tradition and innovation when writing new material?
Well, I suppose it’s all based on how you are taught to survive between worlds while growing up, especially in 2000s Greece. Our land is full of rhymes and legends, just as heavy metal is. Fantasy and history exist in both cultures, so we are not afraid to combine them for a unique result.
The band is often described as epic and emotionally driven. How important is storytelling in your songwriting process?
It is something really important on some occasions, although sometimes we simply want to see people having fun at our shows. What comes first to our minds is to be loved by our fans and driven by passion. Whether historically accurate or purely fantasy, we want to write our own history in heavy metal music.
After releasing three full-length albums and several singles, how has your musical identity evolved over time?
We always try our best in the present moment, so I don’t know if this is called evolution or simply the true expression of our current feelings and knowledge. I think life itself helps you get better just by surviving, and so does a band, through the test of time.
The new single carries a strong sense of resilience and rebirth. Was there a specific concept or feeling that inspired the song?
Totally yes, because, as we know, we’ve been going through really difficult and adverse times—lockdowns all around the world, and some of us lost beloved friends and neighbours. Professional bands stopped working entirely, so for us it was already enough just to exist in the present. Nevertheless, despite our personal problems, we managed to survive and create this masterpiece.
Tidal Dreams are known for intense and dynamic live performances. How does the energy of the stage influence your studio recordings?
I think it’s a two-way drive for us. We imagine ourselves creating both ways around. Both moments are a blessing for the band members, so we do our best while simultaneously imagining and performing a live-session feeling during recording, so it can be played equally true and beautifully in a live show.
The official video for “We’ve Risen Again” has a cinematic and symbolic aesthetic. How closely did you work with the director to translate the song’s atmosphere into visuals?
We mostly believe in people, and we collaborate with those who have a vision and a plan. We do what we do with passion and professionalism, but we rely on and trust others for the best result.
Heavy metal often draws from emotion and grandeur. What emotions do you hope listeners connect with when hearing this new single?
Our real wish and expectation is that even a single person will get goosebumps and get lost within our lyrics and music. That is the reason we compose. That’s what happens to us while playing together, and no matter each person’s interpretation, a single true feeling is our expectation.
Being based in Athens, how does your local scene or cultural environment shape your approach to metal music?
Living in Athens, Greece is surely unique, especially within metal music. This city is a truly contradictory place to be. The scene is strong and becoming more and more efficient and rich in bands. We love and hate living here, and we hope these feelings are expressed in our sound.
Your dedication to the genre feels uncompromising. What does staying true to heavy metal mean to you in today’s global music landscape?
This is something even I don’t know how to answer, because we are so open to listening to other genres of music that I don’t know if playing heavy metal is a statement or just something natural that comes from within. I do know it makes us feel great, and we can’t resist doing it again and again.
With “We’ve Risen Again” now released, what can fans expect next from Tidal Dreams—musically or creatively?
Surely, we have much more to give, and we can’t wait to compose more songs and, why not, a next album in the future. Music for us is a gateway we are always ready to pass through. Be ready for more of the fire that burns within us.
