Sweatmaster releases a new full-length album after a 15-year hiatus via Svart Records
Sweatmaster, one of the aristocrats of Finnish garage rock, is making a big comeback with the release of their fifth album More! in January 2026. After the release of their 2010 album Dig Up the Knife, the band took a break, which ended a few years ago with live performances both domestic and abroad. At the same time, new material began to emerge in the rehearsal room, and the band quickly found a common strategy for working on it.
“We were unanimous about the strengths of our band and decided to get to the heart of the matter. The main idea was to make straightforward songs carried by the vocals. The kind that would work well live with our aggressive playing style,” says the band’s drummer Matti Kallio.
Svart Records will release Sweatmaster’s fifth album in early 2026. More! is a sharp package of fourteen songs that has not been polished to death.
“We wanted a raw and electric sound for the new album, built tightly around the three of us playing. The aim was to stick to Sweatmaster’s original energy and not spread ourselves too thin. However, despite our efforts, the intervening years brought some new tones with them,” guitarist Mikko Luukko explains the background of the new album.
The album’s first single was released on September 19th, and according to singer-bassist Sasu Mykkänen, Destroyer is the essence of Sweatmaster.
“The drum fill draws you into the pull of the electric triangle. The guitar taps at the ballads and wants nothing more than to drive the rhythm until the passionate vocals take over. The song doesn’t lead anywhere, it’s already there. 2 minutes, 37 seconds. Wham bam. Here you go.”
The title track More! served as the second taste of what’s to come. Mykkänen describes the song as follows.
“The second single More! describes the feeling of having travelled several kilometres in a snowstorm, with your destination still so far away that the snow seeping into your shoes has frozen your socks to your ankles. That’s when you need to manifest a rhythm that pushes you forward like a freight train with a few powerful words from Dio. You must stare at the dark sky so intently that you can already see the colours of the rainbow. And as your forehead freezes in the icy wind, your thoughts finally focus on the essentials: Don’t stop, look ahead, and think about how great the old Kiss riffs are.”
The third and final single Police Bastard was released back in December.
“Police Bastard was written pretty much in a day. Since the song is quite fast-paced and compact, it was suitable for composing and recording in a similar style – done and dusted. This way, we felt it remained fresh and raw.
Based on its name, Police Bastard may seem like some kind of political statement. However, it is a memorial song for a mouse that I had to trap.
The song has also proven to be a great addition to our live set. You could say that the feedback from our audience made it the third single from our upcoming album, so let’s give the people what they want!”, comments Mykkänen.
