SPEKTRVM (Modern Heavy Metal – Greece) – Interview for KICKASS FOREVER via Angels PR Worldwide Music Promotion #SPEKTRVM
Interview submitted by Angels PR Worldwide Music Promotion – THANK YOU!!!
- Hello guys! Tell us a few words about the creation of Spektrvm!
Mike(bass) and George(guitar) met in high school, and bonded over their shared love for music. They formed a cover band initially, and after a couple of years, they decided that it was time for original material.
- In which music genre do you categorize your music? Do you want to evolve your songs through various genres or do you prefer to move via a specific formula?
Our music style can’t really be very specifically labeled. The most generic title would be Heavy Metal, but sometimes we are more Doom, sometimes more Progressive, more Folk, more Nu, Alternative, Modern and so on. It really depends on who is listening to it, and what comparisons their minds make while doing so. Generally we try not to limit our sources of imagination and be open to whatever outcome our curiosity and creativeness takes us to.
- Your debut album is out via Sliptrick Records, titled as “Blood For Heaven”. Are you satisfied with your debut album? What can we find in this album?
We are very pleased with the outcome of our debut album, that’s the reason we released it, unchanged, after sitting on it for a while during the Covid-19 quarantine, to finalize the artwork, the music videos and more. The songs of the first album are dedicated to “things” that we think are wrong with society. Gift of Oizys gets you in the mood for the album. Blood for Heaven speaks about how many church branches have been taking advantage of human faith for personal selfish reasons, throughout history. Trying to Breathe speaks about the depression that the helplessness to change what is happening in the world is causing us, Rain Fire speaks about the rage within all of us while ironically condemning acts of violence. Leviathan speaks about vanity. Green god about greed. War of Chameleon about the different types of “war” in modern society and the general idea of it. Without Borders is an anti-racism song. And finally Rotten World is about political corruption and our part of the blame on that.
- Suggest as a song for the music and a song for the lyrics!
This is a very difficult question. What we have created is something total for us and we value each part individually. So let’s look at it purely musically. If you are the type who appreciates stronger progressive elements, then maybe Gift of Oizys to put you in the mood following with Blood for Heaven and Leviathan is for you. If you are more into Power or Metal Ballads then Trying to Breathe and Rotten World on repeat. If you clearly like groove with a musical plot twist then Green God and War of Chameleon. If you appreciate a doom verse followed by an intimate chorus with some elements of a Greek ballad and an endless solo on a pentatonic scale on the background, go straight to Without Borders. And finally, if you just like “rage” with solos on Phrygian/Egyptian scales, nu metal elements and endless Headbanging, you would want to listen to Rain Fire. Lyrically, each of these songs speak to something different and they are all equally important, so we not able to advise you on that.
- I loved your song “Leviathan”. How do you decide to write a song about this “mythical” creature? Is there any story behind this song?
Leviathan as a monster is a metaphor for vanity. It is a short story and a cautionary tale of the past, that we fail to adhere to, and fall victim to, even after being advised against it, because you can only appreciate and break out of certain situations, after you have gone through them personally, to actually feel why you have been advised that way.
- So, do you think that “Leviathan can hear Spektrvm”?
Leviathan hears and judges all, so the answer is definitely “yes”.
- As we saw, you prepare yourselves for some big festivals in Greece and Romania. How do you feel about your participation in these festivals?
It is an honor and a dream come true to play with such monstrous bands, but we are ready to get out there and show what we’re worth.
- What are your big plans with Spektrvm?
We aim for the stars. We really want our music out there, and we want to play at the biggest of stages and events in order to achieve that, while already putting in the work to deserve it.
- Any surprise for your fans till the end of 2023?
By the end of 2023 we hope to have our 2nd album ready, which we are currently composing. We have Rockwave Festival in Greece and also Metalhead Meeting in Romania and some other lives we are waiting on being finalized until then as well.
- Thank you! The last word is yours…
Thank you so much for the invitation to this interview. It’s been lovely. Keep supporting the Metal/Rock scene. Spektrvm Out!
