It’s been 20 years since Dopesmoker (aka Jerusalem), the last full album from Oakland based band, Sleep. It sounds like nothing has changed during the time that has past. Sleep on this album are; Al Cisneros (OM) – bass and vocals, Matt Pike (High on Fire) – guitar, Jason Roeder – drums (Neurosis]. Cisneros and Pike are original members of the band.

Standout tracks on the album are Marijuanaut’s theme, Antarcticans Thawed and Sonic Titan. Sonic Titan studio version is much better then previously realized live version. Album starts off with an instrumental and ends with instrumental. Neither of which are anything special but as a beginning and end of album they work out okay. No reason for me to go into detail on each song. It is what you expect and want from Sleep; slow, heavy and full of Stoner and Sabbath references.

If you are a Sleep fan you will enjoy this. If you are a fan of early Black Sabbath then give it a try, you might like it. As we say in the stoner metal universe (Iommisphere), turn it up, light it up and enjoy!
