SENSE OF FEAR – “As the ages passing by…” album review via Angels PR Music Promotion #senseoffear
Review submitted by Marian Nicolaou from Angels PR
The first incarnation of the band was in 1998 as Holy Prophecy. In 1999 they changed their name to Sense of Fear. They disbanded in 2007 without having released anything only to reform in 2012 and enter discography with their self titled EP in 2013. “As the Ages passing by…” is their first full length.
The album is out from the Italian label Rockshots Records and spans a bit less than an hour. In its 10 tracks Sense of Fear introduce themselves to the metal fans. They play a hybrid of classic heavy metal with thrash and power metal additions. The careful listener will also find NWOBHM influences in their sound.
In terms of riffwork the band decides to keep it basic. Nevertheless, they structure their ideas very well over a basic riff adding ideas on vocals/leads/melodies to enrich the songwriting. Sense of Fear created a strong album.
Bands that came to my mind while listening the album are Grip Inc, Running Wild and Judas Priest. Iron Maiden influences can be also heard on the melodic guitar themes.
However, the biggest influence would be Judas Priest. You can hear it on their thrashier moments and you can hear it on ballads like “The Song of a Nightingale” where this is even more obvious.
Sense of Fear riffs are decent with nice chromatics in. The rhythm section is nice and the vocals aggressive in a thrash manner with additional heavy metal feeling.
The band release official lyric videos for the songs: “Molten Core”, “Torture of Mind”, “Unbreached Walls” and “Black Hole” which happen to be standout tracks.
Overall the album ia an old heavy/thrash metal worship album. It may not be something new, but heavy/thrash fans will gave a good listening experience with it. Sense of Fear cast the first stone here and they seem to have more to say.
