Concert review & videos by John Erigo / KICKASS FOREVER – I’d like to thank Doug Weber & Serena Furlan from New Ocean Media and Bo Smith from the Hard Rock Hotel in Tampa, FL for their help – THANK YOU!!!!
The Hard Rock Event Center in the Hard Rock Casino & Cafe in Tampa, FL felt the invasion of 2 long standing British Heavyweight bands URIAH HEEP and SAXON. The HELL, FIRE & CHAOS tour came to town on April 24, 2024. This was my first time at this venue so I was curious to see it too. I’ve been listening to SAXON since 1980 and have seen them many times live, so I knew what I was in for!

OK, I will be the first to admit, I am not a fan of URIAH HEEP. Not that I don’t think they’re good, just never go tinto them. I was never a fan of those heavy hammond organ sounds, it just sounded off to me. I was always more for guitars, bass and drums. That being said this was my second time seeing the band and again, I thought they were really good for what they do. Mick Box is still cranking on the guitar and the band is tight and are very enjoyable to watch onstage. I was kind of surprised at the length of their set, it was longer than anticipated. I was in no way bored or wanted to leave, but I just kept thinking that Saxon usually plays a long set, and it was getting too late for that LOL! So, if you go see this tour when it rolls through your town, don’t miss Uriah Heep!!!

SAXON, true legends in the heavy metal world, don’t roll through the USA as often as they once did, so when they are here it is your metal duty to attend!!! I have handed out many accolades to Saxon over the years, and all are well deserved. For a band of their stature to have lasted so long is a true testament to their metal abilities. This was the first tour since long time guitarist PAUL QUINN decided to leave the band, and replacement BRIAN TATLER (from DIAMONDHEAD) proved to be a more than worthy band member. Vocalist, the always awesome BIFF BYFORD, still has his long blonde locks and was in full voice – the man is a metal machine! NIGEL GLOCKLER still impressive as ever behind the drums, along with NIBBS CARTER, form one of metal’s finest rhythm sections. DOUG SCARRATT (who’s been in the band since 1995!) still ripping out solos too! All in all Saxon is a well oiled machine with an immense live presence and an amazing catalog of songs to choose from. True Saxon fans are used to longer sets but there was nothing wrong with the song selection – THIS TOWN ROCKS was a nice surprise and the new songs that were included sounded amazing!!! We also got the live debut of WITCHES OF SALEM!!! Please check out the videos below and you will see and hear a polished heavy metal act that you don’t want to miss!!!
