The “Beyond the Realms of Time” is more than just a debut or an introduction to the audience, it is the statement of a band returning decisive to earn its place in the metal scene. Formerly known as Hourglass SOE, the Sands of Eternity is the band’s new and evolved state, releasing its thundering debut.

Sands of Eternity’s first work marks the transition through time, from the old to a new creative era. This is the whole concept behind the record, with the artwork depicting that very intention. Twenty years may have passed, but the desire to make and write music has been affecting Ioannis Ioakimides, the main composer for the band and the person responsible for its forming.

Partnering up with the producer Bob Katsionis and the singer Michael “Dice” Papadakis, Ioakimides formed the Sands of Eternity and released a great power/heavy metal album full of vibrant and exciting power metal tracks.

And you know that a power metal song is exciting and catchy when you try to sing along, though you don’t actually know the lyrics. Speaking of lyrics, the lyrical aspect of the album is finely done. 

The “Beyond the Realms of Time” keeps the spirit of true heavy/power metal alive not by copying shamelessly the successful bands and styles of the past, but by blending it with the band’s artistic signature, a sound that is both familiar and fresh is created. Sands of Eternity have shaped a memorable sound, though is not perfectly shaped since some of their influences are still untamed. However, I am confident that by their next release we will hear an even more evolved and mature Sands of Eternity sound.

Until then, which I hope it won’t be in another 20 years, the “Beyond the Realms of Time” is an undoubtedly really good first step and a record that is guarantee to get you interested in this extremely promising band.
