The project that at first started as nameless death metal project by the brothers Constantine and Petros Jajas by 2021 had become a band called Redreigner, releasing its debut self-titled EP.
The EP is only 20 minutes long and concludes in 4 songs, but honestly it gives a fairly good idea of Redreigner’s musical whereabouts.
Groovy death metal, with a few bursts of speed here and there for extra aggression and At The Gates reminding vocals, consist the biggest part of the record. The “Redreigner” has some heavy metal foundation, with some riffs in the opening track reminding a bit of Judas Priest while the space that is given to the bass and the prominent bass lines I believe are sign of some technical death metal influences. Also, in the tracks “Redreigner” and “Myst” the band deviates from its groovy side by adding some melody, projecting its melodic death metal influences.
Honestly, the debut by Redreigner is not just “not-so-bad” but is pretty good. And when one considers that this was produced only in a few months by a band that didn’t have the time to bond and form a sound, Redreigner’s EP gets even better because it does have character and a personal style. Maybe not full formed and developed, but I am confident that when the full-length album arrive, Redreigner will be ready and they will unleash death metal fury. Until then, enjoy the Redreigner’s EP and have a taste of their promising future.
