REDEYE CARAVAN INTERVIEW

– I read “Redeye Caravan” and the first thing that slips in my mind is “Planet Caravan” by Black Sabbath!! Is there a connection? What are the bands that inspire and give shape to your music?

Howdy folks! We hope you ‘re doing great and thank for this interview. Although we are big fans of Black Sabbath, there is no connection between our name and “Planet Caravan”. “Redeye” was, at that time, a euphemism for whiskey as well as the time of departure of many caravans before dawn, for long trips. “Caravan” because our music is the result of a collaboration of  seven personalities.

We are mostly inspired by stories and we try to capture the atmosphere and balance between lyrics and music! The whole range of rock / country / blues / bluegrass and cinematic music shapes our music direction. 

– Is it difficult to find the right members musicians nowadays, especially when you want to form such a special kind of band like you? How did you guys come together?

Of course it is! Don’t get us wrong, there are plenty musicians almost anywhere, but to find the “right” ones is not just about it! They have to share your vision, your dream, your passion! For us, things were a lit bit easier than most, since we coexisted in various bands before the Caravan, so there’s a friendship here for many years now. We believe that  friendship and patience is the best recipe for creating something that you like and love.

– The Dark country genre is something that receive positive reactions from the fans especially in 2019 and beyond? What are your expectations?

 “Dark country”  is simply our way of defining the mix of references one will find in our lyrics, combined with the vibe which characterizes our stories. What we are primarily interested in, is all those who will listen our album, to enjoy our stories and travel with us to the world we are describing. A world filled with shadowy places.

–  Your first videoclip is something unique and unusual! How that came up? Tell us the story behind it!

Once we finished the song we felt the need to give a picture of what we are narrating and Panos created the whole video. Now, everyone has the opportunity to get a glimpse of the world we’re describing!

In the lyrics of “El Muerto” we come across two common mythology themes, which unfold one after the other, the first becoming the herald of sorts for the next one.
The first of those themes, which is also the first verse of the song, manifests itself as the black bird emerging, which was believed by the natives to be a harbinger of death or evil, appearing right before a death would occur, or foretelling the coming of disaster. In our case the black bird is the herald of the headless horseman’s arrival!
The second theme, which is also the second verse of the song, is taking shape in the form of El Muerto himself, a fabled figure reminiscent of the legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman. He terrorizes, he kills, he brings all kinds of devastation and despair right at the frontier of southern Texas and Mexico!

In the video clip of “El Muerto”, you get the chance to watch our own interpretation on the myth, in which the headless horseman is just… the town jester! He coexists with everyone else, minding his own business, not harming anyone!

– Should we expect a full album from you soon?

Our album is almost ready and it will soon be released in digital and physical form! It’s called “Nostrum Remedium”, a name taken from the patents of medicines once circulated in the Wild West by various geriatrics and translated as “our medicine”, and will be consisted of nine songs.

– Does your image follow the whole dark folk concept? What should we expect from your live appearances?

Everything is at the service of our lyrics. So our music and our outfit follow the era we describe. At the moment we are gettin’ ready for the presentation of our album in order to share our stories live with all the folks who want to have fun alongside the Caravan and take a trip to the world of the dead. Thus, everyone who joins any one of our live performances should expect a Caravan experience. Dark stories dressed in eerie sounds!

– Which band you consider as your major inspiration that you would like to share the stage with someday?

We would be truly grateful to share the stage with anyone who would like to be with us on it! However, playing alongside “The Dead South”  or “Graveyard Train” would be a great honor for us.

– what are your plans from now on? Would you like to share something with your fans?

Μore stories to tell and live performances to share our love for what we do. We would like to send from our hearts and bones a big “thanks” to you for our nice chat and another huge one to all those who send us their love every day. We hope our stories will make it up for you. Cheers!
