Redeye Caravan is a 7-piece band (or should I better say a music collective) coming from Livadeia, Greece. Their 40-minutes long debut “Nostrum Remedium” is really a very impressive and hopeful for the band’s future album. Redeye Caravan’s sound is a very well balanced mix of southern rock, country music and the blues. They keep the right groove on throughout the whole album and they don’t hesitate to experiment. Choral murmurs (“The Descent”), bells, slide and acoustic guitars, violin, harmonica are used to build up a saloon/western/soundtrack atmosphere that smells American South.
Akis Kosmidis’ main vocals sound charmingly tired and lazy with a variety of inspirations added in drawn from artists/bands like Tom Waits, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bob Dylan and Sivert Hoyem (Madrugada) to name a few. “El Muerto” is the first single. The song is memorable and catchy as most of their songs although far from being mainstream.
The whole album has a very warm atmosphere of sweet melancholy delivered with a fresh and clean production. Although their music is nostalgic they don’t sound old or outdated. On the contrary they sound fresh and up to date. Redeye Caravan is a true finding! A unique band that I am glad to have discovered! The album is out in digital format and will soon be out also on CD (hopefully on LP too). In a period where many releases are coming out every week, “Nostrum Remedium” features all the ingredients to be a stand-out record that every music lover will dig regardless of their personal music tastes.
Listen to Redeye Caravan now! You won’t regret it!
