Greece’s Psyanide is an extreme metal band that beautifully combines melodic death metal with groove metal. Their debut full length album “I Declare War” is consisted of 10 songs in which the band well reveals their Swedish melo-death and American groove metal influences.
Over a tight rhythm section, Psyanide actually build their palm-muted guitar grooves balancing between melodic and beatdown parts. Some riffs used are fast, edgy and sharp. The songwriting may not be too technical, but it still is exactly what the band’s extreme style needs. Deathcore influences do appear on songs like “Step By Step”.
Psyanide vocals are angry and extreme, but maintain an emotional expressive style when the song demands it.
“Schizo” is a standout track for me. It features a dark/black atmosphere and additional spoken word while the song is still old school thrash/death. The acoustic part of the song is simply elegant.
Other standout tracks would be “Apology” with a very heavy and deeply emotional atmosphere and “Premonition” the single of the album.
Psyanide’s debut is a very promising album. It is worth listening. Especially for fans of Soilwork, In Flames, Pantera and Machine Head. Looking forward for their next attack, I press “Play” again.
