Berlin, Germany (June 13, 2019) – Hound Gawd! Records is proud to announce the new full length by Pat Todd & the Rankoutsiders titled, The Past Came Callin’, is out now on vinyl LP, CD and digital.
The band will celebrate the album release this Saturday (June 15, 2019) at Cafe NELA, hitting the stage at 11 p.m. with The Stingrays and The Dogs (from Detroit) warming up the crowd and Just Head ending the night.
“Make no mistake, though” the LA Weekly opines “you shouldn’t come to one of the Rankoutsiders’ fiery live shows expecting to hear a bunch of Lazy Cowgirls tunes. “I don’t want to take the easy way out,” Todd says. “I don’t want to patronize the crowd or anybody who wants me to do something.” Indeed, for him it’s about something even more elemental than that. “You probably don’t hang out with all your grade school friends, or people you knew in high school or college,” he says. “You move forward, you keep going and you grow. I think it’s inevitable, and to say that you don’t change is a fool’s game.”
Pat Todd formed the Rankoutsiders from the ashes of his previous red hot outlaw rock band The Lazy Cowgirls circa 2004. Although the Rankoutsiders are less cow punk they are just as red hot and the songs on their new album stack up to a satisfying aural rock’n’punk romp. This is the band’s fifth release and their second on Hound Gawd! The new material will appeal to fans of the Supersuckers, Nine Pound Hammer, Chuck Berry, Johnny Thunders, the New York Dolls, and of course Hank Williams.
“Pat Todd is a true American Original,” Eddie Spaghetti of The Supersuckers enthuses. “Raw real and passionate…And boy, do we need Mr. Todd and his Rankoutsiders, now more than ever.” Big Takeover says “The power and punch of his former band The Lazy Cowgirls is still there…The band delivers a handful of country honk ballads sandwiched between a full set of R&B scorchers, complete with group backing vocals, some nice flourishes of acoustic guitar and harmonica, and even a speck of banjo and pedal steel. This record was made to be cranked at juke joints, hoedowns and keg parties.”
The Past Came Callin’ was recorded last year at Earle’s Rankoutsider Wreckroom in Thousand Oaks, California and was produced and mixed by Earle Mankey and Pat Todd. Mastering was handled by Earle Mankey. All arrangements by the Rankoutsiders. The line-up is Pat Todd on vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica; Nick Alexander on electric and acoustic guitar and vocals; Kevin Keller on electric and acoustic guitar and vocals and lead vocal on “The Ring, The Bottle & The Gun”; Steven Vigh on bass guitar and vocals; and Walter Phelan on drums, percussion and editing.
The fourteen tracks on The Past Came Callin’ are 1. “If Only I Could Fly Backwards In Time,” 2. “The Ballad Of Crystal Valladares,” 3. “Call You On Sunday Night,” 4. “Run,” 5. “Down In Old Boerne,” 6. “The Ring, The Bottle & The Gun,” 7. “Goin’ Nowhere,” 8. “A New Pair Of Eyes,” 9. “Yeah, Ya Had A Bad Night,” 10. “Any Other Way,” 11. “Idle Time,” 12. “Somewhere Down The Line,” 13. “The Future Callin‘” and 14. “Just Between You & Me.”
