If you found nu metal and then the modern/groove metal thing boring or even worst that it sucks and it’s not true metal, then this album is definitely not for you.
But if you enjoyed what bands like Deftones and Faith No More did in the 90’s, then things here get more interesting for you.
If you dig newer bands like Gojira, Periphery or Architects, then there you have it!
O.Y.D. (One Year Delay) is a Greek band that unites the aforementioned styles/bands to a modern/groove metal hybrid with nu metal and metalcore doses placed in.
The album is produced by Fredrik Nordström so you kinda know what to expect in terms of sound. If not, then please go check out bands he has worked with like Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Dimmu Borgir, Firewind, In Flames, Opeth, Rotting Christ, Septicflesh, Samael from a really huge list.
O.Y.D. have all the intensity their style demands. They are good players and have a decent songwriting ability. They balance well between groove, intensity and melody and the result is great. The vocals are fine for the genre and they are mostly angry and attacking, but emotional moments also exist.
Some standout tracks for me were “Jungle High”, “Indigo Flow”, “Nanohopes” and “Escape from Monkey Island”. The album is really nice and you will listen to it very easy from start to finish.
Get the groove on. Push play and wake up your neighbours.
