Have you been to a 90s alternative rock-metal live? Probably, but since I’ll never know if you are that old, this is the kind of music I imagine that Monkey Mind play here. If that sounds like your thing give it a go and you will not regret it. The debut album “Breakdown” will make the difference for you.
I’ve followed the band since I received their promo from the promo company ANGELS PR, fresh stuff that brings something new and unique about the alternative metal scene. It had a little bit of everything alternative, and I became an instant fan. When I searched the internet for information about them, I was surprised that they are a very young band from Cyprus with lack of experience. Their album shows different.
The characteristic distorted guitars and alternative atmosphere is here, but Monkey Mind started to expand their sound even from day one (debut). Like other reviewers maybe will say, you should ignore it at all costs if you are a prejudiced metalhead kind of fan. From the first notes in “Breakdown”, you’ll realize the open-minded Paradise Lost feel of their late 90s atmosphere hidden under an alternative and rock veil.
You have to admit, the songs sound great, it has a very clear production, which means even more because you notice that they don’t overdo it about mastering, leaving room for their natural voice to show some rock feel. The drums work with the band’s style, so I guess they do the job, but also working fine along with the bass lines!
A few songs stand out more with greater results (“Breakdown”, “Upheaval” and “Breathe”), but also all the other songs just bring the whole thing up…they are really decent!
If you like alternative rock and metal and you are a die-hard fan of Paradise Lost, stay the HELL close to this album and forget the rules! I immediately felt better after doing so!
