I have seen Schenker many times over the years both solo and in UFO. So when the “”My Years with UFO” US tour” was announced I HAD to make sure I was there. On a quick personal note — I was also excited to see that long time heavy metal singer RJ Liapakis was announced as the touring vocalist for the US shows. RJ has been a hard working metal singer for more than 2 decades and is best known for his bands Mystic Prophecy. and Devil’s Train. I got lucky enough to meet him before the show – way cool!!!

A brilliant setlist which of included 100% UFO songs, was a great mix of what you’d expect with some really deep cuts sprinkled in. The band was pumping on all cylinders and Mister Schenker put on a 2 hour guitar clinic – ON FIRE!!!! Sometimes us older fans kinda take for granted the iconic songs UFO created over the years. The beginning of the band, which was the time Michael was in the band, had a unique rock n roll chemistry. When I first discovered UFO in the mid 70’s, I was too young to realize the incredible song writing and the talent of the band. Well this show just went to prove that good songs NEVER die!!

It’s always refreshing to hear songs like “Lights Out”, “Doctor Doctor”, “Rock Bottom”, “Too Hot To Handle” – this band that Michael has on tour with him make it easy to close your eyes and go back to when you first heard them. When you ad RD’s Paul D’ianno-ish vocals (thanks April 🙂 !!!) it gives the 2025 live versions of these songs a life of there own, but never straying far from the blueprint of the original band.

What can I say? Michael Schenker is about as legendary a guitar player as the heavy metal world has. This setlist will prove it and also show you the immense influence they had. Great show, great band, great guitar-God fireworks!! You need to get to a show if you can. Videos and remaining tour dates below…….
