MAX ENIX (Prog/Symphonic Metal) – Interview for KICKASS FOREVER via Angels PR Worldwide Music Promotion THANK YOU!!! #MaxEnix
- Hello Max Enix! Welcome to Kickass Forever! How your music journey began? In which age did you decide to be a part of the music scene?
Hello, thank you very much for this interview! I started out singing in a choir and then gradually started covering songs at home (Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Elton John…)! Then one day I discovered Offspring, Fear Factory and then Rhapsody and that was a real revelation! I sang a lot on Rhapsody, especially the album Power of the Dragonflame and the song Lamento Eroico or Symphony of the enchanted Lands and the song Wings of destiny among others… After that I bought my first electric guitar at 16 (which I still have) thinking I was Luca Turilli (without having the level of course ahah)! Then, 3 years later, I bought a keyboard and wrote an epic 19-minute song, quite repetitive but emotional, with the sound of the ocean (hypnotic)! I wrote a screenplay called ‘Conséquences’ which dealt with the consequences of alcohol on the people around me and then interpreted it in music! A great way to start composing ahah! Since then I’ve composed over 500 improvisations/compositions, including interpretations of books (Stephen King’s Shining)! I still haven’t finished the whole book because some of the chapters I’ve composed last over 1 hour! I don’t do things by halves when the passion is there! There are 58 chapters so I’m not ready to see the end yet! I’ll use it to make a horror concept album later ^^ I’ve sung in various bands! A cover band among others (with compositions in very diverse and varied registers), a dark/black metal project where I alternated between clear and black/death vocals (but the taste of blood in my mouth dissuaded me from continuing) then I released a first album as a co-composer under Constellia: Secret Garden before seeing things in a more ambitious way! I wanted more freedom and so I did a lot of work at home to finally release at 37years old the double album I’d wanted all along: Far From Home, which was released under Max Enix and which I composed in 6 months (before the musicians helped me out)!
- Which bands and artists influenced your music? Which music genres do you play?
I can play and compose all kinds of music because I compose and play everything by ear and I have listen lots of music in my life already so it’s pretty simple and straightforward for me! I’m lucky! I’m self-taught like Hans Zimmer or Danny Elfman and my way of composing is quite similar to theirs! I base my compositions on a very filmic approach! You can feel that on Far From Home and on future albums! I’m a huge fan of Devin Townsend, Pain of Salvation, Shining, Opeth, Evergrey, Rhapsody, Vanden Plas, Therion , Akira Yamaoka and Hans Zimmer, for example! But I want to explore unknown worlds and keep my own artistic universe, my own sound above all, and constantly surprise people! Always creating new things, experimenting, surprising and offering unexpected surprises.
- Your new album “Far From Home” is out now via Wormholedeath! A very special release! Congratulations! How do you feel about this new album?
Thank you so much! The reception of this double album has exceeded my expectations! The reviews are generally extraordinary! Especially for people who take the time to listen carefully from beginning to end (2h40) and understand the scenario!
- What anyone can hear on your new album? Is a release that makes the listener get stuck through music?
You have to experience it as if it were a film! I advise you to buy the digipack, which contains a 48-page booklet and magnificent illustrations by Thomas Ewerhard! The aim is to keep the listener hooked from start to finish, and not to let him or her get bored while listening! My advice is to lie back calmly on your bed or sofa, put on your headphones and let yourself be carried away by the journey! The Budapest symphony orchestra is on board, along with a host of world-renowned guests, and you will found on it a mix of progressive rock/metal, film music and all the other genres! I’ll leave you to discover all this while sipping a good drink! Autumn is just around the corner, so a pumpkin spice latte will do just fine with enchanted pumpkins around ahah !
- In this disc, you collaborate with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. How was that collaboration? What do you keep from this experience?
It was extraordinary! Superb, highly skilled musicians! A great team and glitter in their eyes! If I had to do it again… I’d do it straight away! In the future I’ll be calling on them for film music, games or other projects (depending on possibilities and means)! Budapest is a beautiful city too, with great places to eat and to marvel at!
- On your new album we hear a lot of special guests! Tell us more about this section.
Yes, there are many, many guests on this double album, but it’s impossible to list them all here! You’ll find Fabio Lione (Rhapsody), Andy Kuntz (Vanden Plas), Tom Englund (Evergrey), Luciana Lys (Nightwish tribute), Michael Herrington (Onetwenty), David Readman (Adagio), Devon Graves (Deasdoul tribe), Marcela Bovio (Stream of passion), Damian Wilson, Heather Findlay, Niklas Kvarforth (Shining), Dan Swano, Kobi Farhi (Orphaned Land) Etc…
- Pick 2 songs from your new album that our readers should hear!
The last track, 26min Far From Home, sums up the atmosphere of this double album, and for the 2nd I’d say Prayer of the Gods or Angels of the Apocalyptic Storm, but these can easily be replaced by the others (depends of the tastes), which all offer different moods and are a continuation of the story! Some are more hard, other more soft it’s depends !
- Your new video “Tears Of Earth” is out now! A very interesting song and video that speaks about our planet. What is the message that you want to proceed through this song and video?
Mother Earth is fed up with human behaviour and the devastating consequences for the environment are not insignificant! The world will never be the same again! Humanity, by continuing to not give a damn about anything, will sooner or later be destroyed by nature! It’s a fair return! There could be discussions and a global agreement to find solutions and release funds, but they don’t! People constantly prefer to blame others! And in the meantime, the world is destroying itself! The Earth has been here a lot longer than humans have and it will continue to be here afterwards! The important thing is to act now so that people can live in harmony as much as possible and delay the approaching end! As long as there are wars, horrors… the Earth will gradually suffocate, taking many animals with it! It’s burning from within! The Universe sees everything! The hope of a better world is always there, and we must preserve our spirit and our soul as much as possible against the tragedy of this limited human condition. It’s important to see further ahead with the eyes of hope and innocence…
- What is the next step for Max Enix?
The orchestral version of Far From Home with brand exclusive FX sounds (3CDS) will be released on 27 October 2023, accompanied by video clips with lots of powerful, sensible images. Big festivals are planned for 2024 and especially 2025! A tour will be planned for 2025/2026! Lots of videos will be filmed and superb photos will be available! I’m currently working on 2 transcendental albums, very different from each other but complementary! One black, the other white! No names yet, but they’ll be coming out at the same time in autumn 2026 (lots of things will be connected and the whole thing will be very enigmatic and mysterious)! Collaborations and proposals are also in the pipeline (vocals, compositions), notably for the cinema! Many other surprises will be coming very soon!
