If you’ve been paying attention to our site, you no doubt have seen updates regarding this release by KING DIAMOND. A long time coming, this live package is a must for any KING DIAMOND fan. Released as both audio & video, SONGS FOR THE DEAD captures 2 full shows that include King Diamond songs, as well as MERCYFUL FATE songs and the album ABIGAL in its entirety. I was immediately impressed with the video quality – spectacular lighting makes this really enjoyable. I have seen far too many live DVDs that are poorly lit and it takes away from the overall enjoyability of the product.

— so there’s no shortage of metal here!!! I enjoyed the elaborate stage set too, filled with actors and actresses enhancing the theatrics King Diamond was always known for but NOT taking away or being distracting to the music. Also, what a stellar band!

Also, King Diamond is “assisted” vocally by LIVIA ZITA as she seems to accompany KD on all the high note/falsetto parts. Overall the band sounds killer and spot on! Great solos from both guitar players and thunderous bass and drums rounds out this DVD. I can’t say enough about how great the band sounds! King Diamond himself sounds like he hasn’t lost a thing and seems very into the shows. He hadn’t been very active before these tours due to health problems, so it’s good to be the KING! LOL! I myself hope he does something similar but with ALL Mercyful fate songs – we’ll see! I will post some videos that have been released so you can get an idea of what SONGS FOR THE DEAD is all about…….. enjoy.
