KATRE is a post-rock band formed by 4 friends towards the end of 2014 who grew up together.
• A new music album is coming with the title Behind The Resilience Should we treat the title semiotically?
I think we should clear what we meant by resilience as it is a cultural reference for a certain state of mind. In eastern cultures where countries aren’t as industrialized and so the social rights aren’t as solid as western lands, people depend on each other in every sense. In any kind of trouble, we tend to seek help from our close circle which is usually a crowded one, and solve them within that circle and for the sake of our coexistence. We tend to live, struggle and solve, collectively.
That makes eastern people “resilient” to many things which might be perceived as an insoluble problem for western people, at least insoluble on their own. But in our story, we try to describe “the problem” which even bereaves that resilience from these people. Because we think that this is an unnoticed and/or underrated issue.
So I think your answer is yes, album should be treated semiotically.
• Will the songs that will form its atmosphere have a common place?
From my perspective, the story is a Middle-Eastern one as it is where we are from. So it is a story from that part of the world: a fertile, cosmopolite, sunny but chaotic, wild and sad land.
• What do you think is the purpose – if any – of a song beyond entertaining its listener?
Our purpose is to speak our word in the language we love – the melody. Entertainment is not something we offer, it is an another way to define the experience by the listener.
• We are already happy to hear the complaint «The Decision» and «Route» How close is the presentation of the whole album?
Sorry, I did not get this question ☹
• Will you share with us scenes from the first listening of the songs to their recording?
The process was very difficult and unusual as half of the band lives in Germany and others live in Turkey. Each of us have our own experience but mostly, it was like an exciting, willing, tough but very satisfying process. This concept is a mature one, it’s been taught for a long period of time and beyond the music itself, we dreamed of many supportive elements like visuals, different ways of presentations, even creating some scientific data in order to express ourselves, precisely. So it is not complete yet but will be soon.
• The music-loving audience of the rock scene is very specific in our country. Have you ever wondered how your life would have been different if you had lived somewhere else?
We are all Turkish but living in different countries. Two of us are living in Turkey and two of us are living in Berlin. A European culture and understanding are common things of ours but the middle-eastern spirit is also in our blood. Even this represents a broad spectrum of living,
a very different culture – like the USA – probably could made our story way different. But most probably, the way we speak would be the same.
• Tell us “in a word” what this band means to each of you.
Sincerity, satisfaction, speech and attention
• And a word about your craziest dream about it.
Collective answer is playing for the biggest crowd possible.
• Where will we meet you this winter?
This winter will be a “videographics” season for us. Mostly we’ll spend our time in Turkey and Germany. Give us a call when you’re on the way and we’ll light the barbecue (=
• Are there any plans for your next steps?
We are currently focused on creating some visual materials to support our word. Probably we will be busy with them on following months. After that we’ll be dealing with gigs and a tour perhaps.
