I am always scouring the internet in search of new bands. One day I came across a band called The Royal Zapphires. A really cool rock band from Sweden, what a shock! It seems like the Swedish rock n roll scene is thriving these days. Sadly the band broke up after one EP. I had actually friended their drummer, Tim Jälmingeron, Facebook & Instagram. When Tim joined a new band called THE STUNGUN SONS I was immediately interested. So now that I have a web site, I decided to ask Tim if he and any of his new bandmates wanted to do a quick interview, and here it is!!!!…..
1. Can you please tell us how the band started? I have been following Tim on social media since he was in a band called The Royal Zapphires. So please tell us what happened to that band, and how Stungun Sons got together.“The Royal Zapphire split up because the other two guys wanted to put all focus on another project. When the band split up me and Fredde decided to continue and start a new band from scratch. We started to look for members immediately and StunGun Sons is what happened. Actually Mikael came up with the band name.” -Tim
2. Your home is listed as Sweden – there seems to be an amazing rock scene there, SO many good up and coming bands. What’s it like for you guys in the local scene?
”The local rock scene is small and very competitive.
It’s hard work to gain attention and land gigs mainly due to the fact that most of the bands just like you mentioned are very good and on a high skill level.
However, It’s also a very tightly knitted group and most bands support each other as much they can by attending each others gigs.” -Adam
3. So far you have released 2 EPs, a total of 9 songs – are there plans for a full length album?
”We have been thinking about an album and when looking to our current size of the portfolio of tracks it is a logical step. But we are also looking at an industry that has changed alot the last couple of years and today it’s more important to be very consistent in pumping out new material in order to keep the audience interested.
We would love to make a “proper” album but will probably wait until we are more established.
When Spotify and social media is your biggest platform as a band it’s more important to add newness several times a year rather than staying silent for two years, release an album and then risk losing your audience in the process.
We believe more bands will take this approach and it’s the way going forward if you’re a small band.” -Adam
4. Are they any plans on touring outside of Sweden in 2018 for the band?
“If we’ve got the chance to play outside Sweden we would take it without doubt. We would love to go but right now we don’t have any booked shows yet.” -Tim
5. Who are some of your favorite bands both old and new?
“Some good old classics we love is Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Motorhead, Guns n’ Roses, Kiss, Black Sabbath and so on… Some bands more modern we really like is The Hellacopters, Turbonegro, Airbourne, Royal Republic, Hardcore Superstar, H.E.A.T, Gluecifer, you got it! “ -Tim
6. Does anybody in the band have a good “Lemmy story”? Any real rock star experiences? LOL!
”I was on my way home (Stockholm) from Gothenburg when my buddy called and said that he had a huge party at his place. I was still a little tipsy from the night before and thought it sounded great. So I just jumped of the train to catch the first bus to Norrtälje.
It was a great party, cool people and a lot to drink.
At one point I headed to the bed to get some sleep and that’s the last thing I remember.
When I woke up, I was outside on a park bench, with a cracked rib and a infected wound in my palm.
I decided to head back inside but couldn’t find the place and after 10-15 minuets I realised…
I was in a completely different town, miles away! I tried to wash my hand in a fountain but I think it only made it worse. It was early in the morning so there was no people out I could ask for directions or where I was.
Eventually I found a train station and got back to Stockholm.” -Fredde
7. You guys play really good straight ahead rock n roll, a style that up until recently had been kind of quiet. How do you see the World accepting bands that just play loud rock n roll these days? Most bands are either extreme heavy or pop crap.
”We can understand what you mean. We are playing the kind of music we love without over thinking whether people like it or not. With that being said, we think a lot of people enjoy this type of straight ahead rock n roll as you call it. As we said before, there are a lot of bands that play good rock both here in Stockholm and in the world in general, and we are doing the best we can to stand out from the rest and keep the spirit of rock n roll alive. People seem to like what we do and the response have been great so we are thrilled to just keep it going!” -Johan
8. Any last words for fans or people who want to check out your music?
”We hope you will enjoy listening to the songs as much as we love playing them. Come check us out live if you get the chance to and we’ll make sure to treat you something special. Long live rock n roll!” -Mikael
