Kick Ass Forever -Illusions of Grandeur Interview
Hails Illusions of Grandeur! Where am I finding you now?
Illusions of Grandeur is currently in the studio working on the follow up to our 2021 album “The Siren.”
The third part of The Siren Saga “The Siren Rises” which will be told in two parts The Siren Rises Part1 which will be out by the end of 2023.
There is a quite interesting story behind the band and the way it was formed about 7
years ago? Would you mind giving us the details?
Illusions of Grandeur was formed as a Hard Rock/Metal Theatrical band, IOG’s music is a mix of influences from modern metal to classic old school metal and hard rock formed in 2015.
IOG’s influences range from: In This Moment, KORN, Altar Bridge, Evanescence and Avatar to Led Zeppelin and The Who.
The idea of Illusions of Grandeur is to create a world and tell the story of “The Siren” and her journeys. IOG’s love of both history and Greek/Norse Mythology felt that this was the best medium way to create a world for “The Siren Saga.” IOG feels that when listening to music or seeing a live show you should be able to immerse yourself in that moment and take a journey of your own with the band.
Until now you have released two albums of the Siren saga. What are the plans?
When is this saga going to end?
Illusions of Grandeur’s “The Siren Saga” is the opening trilogy of many stories and myths to come, where the band journeys to next, you have to wait and see!
· In addition to the previous question, is there any chance for you to ever release an
album with a theme completely different of the Siren and the forenamed saga?
“Midnight” is the next step for Illusions of Grandeur, the 1st single from the forthcoming album “The Siren Rises” which the band hopes to have in release by early 2024. “Midnight” again takes the band musically into unfamiliar territory and moves a bit away from the Siren Saga, stay tuned to see what IOG does next!
· What is your musical background? What kind of music does anyone of you listening?
to when you are home. And what are the main influences for the music of Illusions
Of Grandeur?
The Siren started in music a long time ago, pretty much since her feet touched the ground. At four years old she was on stage and has been there ever since. From choir to musical productions, cover bands and finally landing in her own band Illusions of Grandeur in 2015. The band began with CM (Archangel) and The Siren as its founders. They had been in a hard rock band together just prior to the birth of Illusions and decided they wanted to go their own way, using The Sirens unique vocal qualities and theatrical background as a foundation for the band and its music.
We listen to a variety of music from bands like In This Moment, Korn, Metallica to Adele, Led Zeppelin and a ton of independent music.
· The band is quite active when it comes to live gigs. You have performed in many
festivals in the US and you have visited Europe as well. Do you “use” these concerts?
as a visualization of your concept?
Illusions of Grandeur’s stage show “The Siren Saga” transport the concerts to another world telling the story of the battles of “The Siren”. Maggie and CM formed Illusions of Grandeur in 2015 after they had been touring in a rock band together for about year or two. The pair realized that an element of entertainment was missing from the show, theatrics. Maggie and CM sat down and planned out what they would want to hear and see at a live show and the styles of music that would best focus that vision. Illusions of Grandeur was born.
· You have performed live in billings with quite different groups. For example, you
have played with Stryper but you have played with OTEP as well and with Dope. Do
you feel that you fit in so many different versions of heavy music?
Illusions of Grandeur’s style of music allows us to play with a variety of bands as we have a mix of genres and song styles, we have really enjoyed the tours we have done with bands of many different genres and styles of music.
· A couple of weeks ago you released a new video for the song Upon My Life. Are you.
happy with views and reactions until now? By the way, this is a great song!
Illusions of Grandeur has received many reviews of both the albums and the videos (7 videos in release currently available on iTunes and YouTube, VEVO)
Reviewers see the many sides of the band, if you are not really into our music there are the theatrics and acting done both live and in the video. Illusions of Grandeur have been told many times that there is a little something for everyone in what IOG does. The “Upon My Life” video gave viewers a glimpse into the live show and was received very well and we thank all that have taken the time to view it!
IOG’s Upon My Life video was shot live at the tail end of The Rise of The Demons tour 2022 at The Vanguard in Hampton, VA. Upon My Life captures a section of the bands live show. Additionally, the “Take Me Alive” video was shot at the same show.
· What are the plans for near future?
Illusions of Grandeur’s The Siren Tour continues through the remainder of 2023 into 2024. IOG are currently while tour producing their 3rd album the next story in The Siren Saga “The Siren Rises EP’s” which the band looks to have out in 2023-2024.
