HOT SUNDAY BLOOD – New Ωmega ” (October 2017, Mervilton Records)
Hot Sunday Blood is an Italian alternative/groove metal band. Their latest album “Kein Licht” was one of the releases that impressed us so much over the last months that we felt we had to go back to their previous album “New Omega” to review it.
The personal Hot Sunday Blood sound exists also in “New Omega”. The band here starts shaping their own trademark sound and paving their way to success.
In the album’s 9 tracks you get to listen to a unique crossover of groove/alternative metal, alternative rock, nu metal and grunge. The heavy sound and the strong riff-work doesn’t cut by no means on the emotional aspect of the album. In addition to that, everything is wrapped up nice in a modern and pretty fresh production.
There has been an amazing job done in terms of both songwriting and performance, I must underline. Hot Sunday Blood are definitely skillful players and talented musicians. Their sense of harmony and melody are really huge and both are laid upon the thick grooves they produce and the band’s vocals which are moving with ease from emotional to desperate, then angry and back!
“Omega into Flesh” and “Observed” could be my standout tracks from the first listening of the album. But, after the second listen, new songs came out to impress me. Actually, each time I put the record on, I would discover something new that I dig; another song, a chorus, a bass-line, a lead guitar theme, a vocal-line or a drum pattern. This has happened before only in great albums.
And yes, “New Omega” is a great album and makes a very rich listening experience that you have to let yourself in. I am sure Hot Sunday Blood will find their way to your home.
