Harmonize Oracle – “Before The Oracle”
Harmonize Oracle’s “Before the Oracle” is a vivid, multifaceted exploration of the band’s roots and of their own growth. Released in November 2024, the EP is both a love letter to their formative years and a showcase of their current prowess. Featuring a mix of original tracks, bold covers, and reimagined classics, this release is a gaze into the musical core of Harmonize Oracle.
The opening track, “Chained Spirit”, immediately sets a high bar. With its intricate European power metal influences and thunderous riffs, this song is a powerful reminder of why Harmonize Oracle stands out in the genre. The precise, aggressive instrumentation and dark, majestic energy provide a perfect introduction to their original material, while hinting the darkest side of their influences which coincidentally is revealed in the next song.
The band’s rendition of Satyricon’s “Phoenix” that follows up is both a departure and a testament to their versatility. By incorporating soaring female operatic vocals and lush symphonic textures, they reinterpret the song while preserving its haunting atmosphere. This track highlights their ability to infuse external influences with their distinct sound.
The ten-minute “Crawling Among Shadows” is the crown jewel of the EP. Dark, epic, and layered with emotional depth, this track demonstrates Harmonize Oracle’s mastery of long-form composition. From heavy metal ferocity to power metal grandeur and even melodic death metal intensity, the song’s dynamic range is as impressive as its storytelling. The inclusion of fry vocals adds grit, making this track a standout moment.
Harmonize Oracle’s take on Amon Amarth’s “Shield Wall” captures the raw, battle-hardened spirit of the original while making it their own. The marching rhythm, commanding riffs, and epic scope evoke a vivid sense of warriors preparing for combat. Ending the EP on a high note, the band’s rendition of Blind Guardian’s “Another Holy War” is a thrilling homage to one of their primary influences. Faithful to the original’s power and speed, the track also benefits from Harmonize Oracle’s rich, layered approach. This closing song is a bright, explosive finale that encapsulates the EP’s overarching theme of honoring the past while embracing the future.
Whether you’re a long-time fan of the band or new to their music, “Before the Oracle” is an essential listen. It’s a bold statement of intent and a shining example of what epic dark power metal can achieve. Harmonize Oracle delivered an introspection into their musical work, an EP that offers a sense of their influences while presenting some of their best original work to date.
