“A fascinating loose interpretation of Dante’s Inferno in an upbeat, quirky rock/metal hybrid.” – Sleeping Village
“Blends refreshingly between the Traditional Heavy Metal of Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy with quite a few elements of Punk Rock and Brit Pop, a bit like Suede and Supergrass.” – Metalist Magazine
“Goodness me, Purves knows how to write something that sticks with you.” – Maximum Volume Music
Hell is For Hugo is the band’s debut release: a six-part concept EP series that follows the story of a boy trapped in a modern-day version of Dante’s Inferno.
The first EP, Descent, was released in June 2020 to critical acclaim, and now the next part of the story is about to be unleashed in the form of the second EP, Theodore, out 31st July.
The EP was mixed by Pat Noon at Eightsixteen/Trax East (Saves the Day, The Black Dahlia Murder) and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (Visigoth, Midlake, Thrice).

Set in the fictional town of Midway during Halloween, it tells the story of Hugo, a mischievous young trick-or-treater, who gets lost while running from the police and ends up accidentally following a group of demons into Hell. There he meets Emily, a young girl who was stolen the previous Halloween and is looking for her father, and Theodore, a mysterious figure who vows to help them escape in his elevator. Over the course of one night, they must travel through Hell’s nine circles and avoid the pursuing Scavengers, who threaten to eat them whole. But their journey uncovers a secret that may mean Hugo has to stay in Hell forever!
Planned as a six-part release over the course of 2020, the story will be told over a series of EPs, starting with Part I: Descent. The final part will be released on 30th October, just in time for Halloween.
