- 1) Welcome! Please let us know a few things about Goditha. Who are you and how this project started?
- ~Hello , thank you for your interest in our work. I am a songwriter/ composer from Athens and I decided to create a Medieval fantasy rock opera with 16 characters. I selected the vocalists who would take the roles very carefully and then I took my project to the Mighty Bob Katsionis who added his ideas and completed the arrangements. Recordings, rehearsals and production took 4 years until it was released.
- You released your album “Goditha-The Rock Opera” this year. Are you satisfied about the result and the feedback until now?
- ~ Yes, very satisfied. It all went unexpectedly well although this kind of music is not at all commercial and doesn’t have a fixed audience. It was a surprise for us how many people with so many different musical tastes loved our music.
- Tell us a few words about your official video clip “Light And Darkness”. Who created this and some strange or funny things about the shots.
- ~ We decided to film the whole performance during our rehearsals at the theatre. We directed it ourselves and we brought in a crew of professionals to do the shooting. “Light and darkness” shows the battle for power between Daeva the princess of Darkness ( Iliana Tsakiraki ) and Father Alvin , the priest who protects the village (Yiannis Papanikolaou ) . We had many funny moments at the theater . Particularly , in this song , we had to shoot the exit scene many times because in the end Iliana was dragging Yiannis out by the hand and as she was walking backwards in the dark she couldn’t see where the door is so she kept bumping on the walls over and over again until she finally found it by accident.
- We think that your musicianship is really outstanding! What are you musical studies?
- ~ Thank you. I’ve been studying in The National Conservatory since I was 9 years old. I studied theory, harmony, counterpoint and also classical guitar , bass, drums, piano. I also had vocal lessons for 8 years while I was in the Pierce College Choir. And when I left the Conservatory I still continued having private lessons in electric guitar.
- The artwork of the album is perfect and ideal for your music. Who created this?
- ~ This is the work of Kostas Tsiakos ( PaperGoblin ) and it depicts the battle between good and evil over the suffering of a common woman.
- What is the meaning of your lyrics? Any secrets hidden or just poetry?
- ~ All the lyrics are totally symbolic and the main meaning that I wanted to express is that good and evil co-exist inside us and it’s the choices we make that define who we are.
- You don’t seem to perform live a lot. Do you plan to make some live performances when Covid-19 will allow us to return in full live activities?
- ~ I have been in some bands in the past but honestly I am not a good performer myself and despite the years of studies still I can’t sing well so I’d better not be on stage but write music for others to sing.
- What is your biggest dream?
- ~ I would like to put up a rock opera in the theater. Maybe Goditha or maybe a new one. We’ll see because the situation now doesn’t allow any big dreams for anyone.
- Any plans for your sophomore release?
- ~ Of course. I’m already preparing new material with some fresh ideas and when I’m ready I’ll start looking for people to collaborate with.
- What are your main influences?
- ~ I would say classical music, Bach mostly . And classic rock bands like Queen and Jethro Tull who are my favourite. Melodic power metal bands and of course Iron Maiden.
- Thank you very much for this interview. The last words are yours!.
- ~ Thank you for this interview. I wish you and your readers a great 2021 with health , joys and with the hope we all get our lives back soon ! :o)
