Gentihaa – Reverse Entropy – (September 2019 – Symmetric redords).
With their debut full length Gentihaa set a strong basis for bigger things to come.
The opening track “Serum” is an instrumental with soundtrack mood and classic metal vibe dwelling in space and the deepest seas.
With a nice black metal riffology on the background “Empathy” carries all the heavy metal characteristics of Sonata Arctica and Symphony X. The track is symphonic/heavy with a great thrashy guitar tone, crunchy and crispy enough . The operatic chorus dreamy.
Next song “Vision” has an At The Gates meets Therion demonic atmosphere. Septicflesh watch from their throne. The amazing funeral synth work darkens the song a lot. The heavy metal vocals give way to black metal vocals and the music is an extraordinary mixture of epic/black/heavy metal.
“Metamorphosis” opening theme is fragile and the synths create a cosmos that is torn by the Behemoth riff that enters. The vocals are old heavy metal influenced and the double bass sounds great. Dark atmospheres and Ghost patterns give the track a special character. Certain clear vocals create a King Diamond mood.
“Alpha” has a fantastic groove. It balances between thrash and metalcore with symphonic metal attitude. The vocal lines sound a bit alternative metal.
“Beyond” is maybe the more black metal song of the album. After another fragile, almost ethereal intro, the riff becomes aggressive bringing to mind Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir whose live shows in Greece the band opened. Ghost and King Diamond influences are present too.
“Command” starts with a razor sharp pitched riff and spoken word that soon becomes brutal. The song is technical keeping it melodic. The acoustic part of the song is excellent and proves the band’s quality. The lead guitar is somewhat classical.
“Mastery” begins with a Therion-like mood. Tremolo picking gives a death metal vibe and the clean vocals are diverse.
“Singularity” is the last song of “Reverse Entropy”. It starts out with acoustic guitars. The vocals are also clean. This part of Gentihaa shows how many things they can do. The heavy part in the middle is technical and the song ends acoustic.
“Reverse Entropy” is an excellent debut for Gentihaa. It mixes portions of symphonic metal, metalcore, thrash and heavy metal. The harmonizing guitars, diverse vocals and orchestral strings in the background fill the good riffing work. The production is excellent and it looks like this band has a great future!
