Disillusive Play is a Greek band which mixes heavy rock and progressive rock with modern production and fresh ideas. “Open Arms” is their first full length and welcomes the listener to their world.
Disillusive Play album begins with the song “Alpha”, an 80’s hard rock tune with many modern rock/metal elements in it. The extremely nice and warm female vocals of Antigone the band’s singer are very attractive. “In the Blink of a Life” is a heavier song with nice rhythm section; the vocals here appear angrier. The same titled song “Open Arms” has many emotional changes throughout. These changes also come in the riffing which is basically hard rock. “Watered Soil” and “Stealing You Away” are more progressive rock-oriented tunes. Both songs come with heavier guitars closer to metal aesthetics rather than rock. “White Dove” and “Final Decision Made” mark slower moments for Disillusive Play allowing them to reach the hard rock/metal ballads’ standards. “Ηer Lonely Mind” electronic influences show another face of the band making a remarkable hard rock song which is very emotional and makes a favorite of mine. The last actually song of the album “Emotionless” gets heavier again with some great metallic riffs. The album ends with “Open Arms” re-visited in an extended version.
All in all “Open Arms” makes a great debut for the Greeks Disillusive Play. The album will appeal to fans of hard rock with female vocals as well as heavy metal fans who appreciate progressive rock and modern rock.
