DEMIDEAD (Death Metal – Italy 🇮🇹) – Interview for Kickass Forever courtesy of Angels PR Worldwide Music Promotion #demidead #deathmetal #heavymetal
This interview was not conducted by KAF – we’d like to thank Marian Nicolaou from Angels Pr Music Promotion for sending it to us – THANK YOU!!!
1. How and from whom the band was formed?
-
- After many years playing cover and trying to find its initial identity, everything band to truly move in 2018. For this reason I considered that year as the true birth of Demidead. I originally founded it with a friend, but it evolved so much that is now something totally different from then.
- How did you come up with the name Demidead for the band?
- The name itself means “half dead”. I was thinking to a name for the band that could reflect the condition and the daily struggle of those who are facing depression and suicidal thoughts, as I was doing back then.
I thought about apathy, a psychological state in which makes you feel like you’re not alive at all because it shouts down your emotions. I though how close to death depression could bring people, but the fact that Demidead could also mean “not dead yet”, represents the will to endure too.
- Your debut album is entitled “War Against Ourselves” tell us a few words about the album.
- Published in 2024, features a heavier sound than the previous EP, with Nu, Thrash and Groove influences upon a Death Metal backbone. This album is all about mental illnesses and the constant fight that people who suffer from them must face in order to not being devoured and destroyed. Is overall considered that these conditions make people weak while they need, in fact, to build more mental strength than an “average” person to keep going with a life that many take for granted.
- How did you choose to write an album about psychology and mental illnesses?
- It happened mainly because I personally struggled a lot in my life against depression and I always had to face some prejudices and discrimination as I’ve been seen as a “weak man”. In my life I also met other people facing struggles akin mine, and since music literally saved my life I feel that I want to return the favor, and help people talk about depression and mental illnesses to understand them better, from one side, and give the strength to endure against the suffering, on the other.
- Which bands influenced the most your sound?
- We have a lot of influences from various metal sub-genres artist like Gojira, Lamb of God, Meshuggah, Korn, Trivium, Children of Bodom, Testament, Machine Head and many more.
- If you had the chance to participate in a prestigious festival with, which bands would you like to play with?
- Of course, Gojira or Meshuggah. They are both geniuses and it will be awesome to share the stage with them. I also think that it would be a dream to play with all the bands that influenced us the most.
- How you considered a guest appearance at an album of yours in the future? Who would that be?
- Actually, I would love to collaborate with Lacuna Coil or Destrage, some of the major Italian metal band on the scene, but I would personally like to make music with Salmo or Nitro. These guys are one of the best Italian rappers in my opinion, and they both came from metal, so they understand what we’re talking about and I think their unique style could mix well with our future sound.
- What are your plans for the future?
- We’ve just announced a new drummer, Lorenzo Corioni, so we are going to review our stage outfits and our visual presence, AND we are about to announce a new show in an important European festival, so stay tuned!
