Wow, DEE SNIDER — if it wasn’t for Dee Snider I don’t know if I’d be SO into metal. Growing up on Long Island, NY and being into heavy music, it was inevitable for me to encounter the local legends TWISTED SISTER. Their pre-major label shows are legendary for us old school SMF’s! I can say seeing Twisted Sister at the age of 17 in the Summer of 1981 really turned me into even more of a metal head. The major reason was their energy and their Frontman, yes – Dee Fucking Snider! A bundle of furious energy, and funny as all Hell when he spoke to the crowd, Dee really was and always be THE frontman in my eyes when it comes to our genre. Nobody can perform the way he does, his all around prowess on stage is unparalleled. But that was a long time ago, and this album is a first for Snider……..because as the story goes, he didn’t write any of these songs! The complete opposite of the TS days. So, how is this album???? Let’s go!

When I heard that HATEBREED’s JAMEY JASTA was involved in this album I feared it was going to be a Nu-Metal kind of sound. But I have to admit that this album is NOT that, instead it is kind of a hybrid, but it’s REALLY heavy! It’s not like a classic Heavy Metal sound, and it’s not too modern. It falls somewhere in between. The opening track LIES ARE BUSINESS blasts right out of the gate, MOTORHEAD – like double bass attack!!! Now one thing that I’d like to mention is DEE SOUNDS AWESOME on this album! These are some of the best vocal performances he’s ever recorded. There’s a lot of good stuff going on here, solid musicianship and song writing, and as mentioned, excellent vocal execution. I have to hand it to Dee here, this is a solid metal album. Most people remember Twisted Sister for their more commercial tunes like WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT and I WANNA ROCK but if you go back in time, you will learn that before it was cool, TS was a really heavy band! They had some really up-tempo tunes before most bands started playing “thrash”. A lot of that was Snider’s engine, he has always been a high Octane performer and fueled the TS engine to drive harder, faster, HEAVIER!!!!

       

Some stand out tunes for me are TOMORROW’S OF NO CONCERN, ROLL OVER YOU, RUNNING MAZES, FOR THE LOVE OF METAL and BECOME THE STORM. The production is really good too. I can’t say enough good things about this album, Dee Snider has really hit a home run here and I am hoping for us metal heads’ sake this is something that sparks Dee to keep creating new music. FOR THE LOVE OF METAL isn’t just an album title, it’s a truth. Dee has been metal for a very long time, and we’re all better off with Dee Fucking Snider making metal music!!!! So a big thumbs up from me on this one, go grab this album and turn it up!!!!!!
