There’s a natural sweet spot between progressive and extreme, which, when tapped into, makes for true beauty. Operating within that narrow band are Dawn of Ouroboros, a group of veterans who have spent much time honing their signature sound of progressive black metal. The fruits of their labor is a stunning listen entitled The Art of Morphology, from which the 9-minute lead single is taken.

“Sorrow’s Eclipse” encompasses the best of every musician involved. Tony Thomas (guitars/composition) sets a grandiose framework within which the others can work, and David Scanlon (Deliria) fills in the low end with subtle complexity on bass, while Ron Bertrand (Botanist, Sentient Ignition) brings in his energetic and versatile drumming.

Arguably the star of the show, though, is Chelsea Murphy’s vitriolic vocals as she gives a masterclass performance..

The song is a true adventure, and indicative of the forthcoming album’s power. Dawn of Ouroboros will certainly be turning heads in the metal community before long.
