“POWER TRIO” is Danko Jones’ newest album, their 10th studio album, coming out on August 27, 2021. Getting a Danko Jones album is almost like going to your favorite pizza place for a few slices. Is it a gourmet meal? No. Is it in a fancy setting? No. Is it going to break your bank? NO! But…..and there’s ALWAYS a but – you will enjoy it as much or more than any other meal you could have at that time. In other words you know what you’re going to get, but you don’t care because you know you’re going to enjoy it thoroughly!! Danko Jones has established a sound of their own, they’ve laid the groundwork for a long time, and never really deviate from the plan too far to the left or right, which is just fine by me.

I’ll take it a step further and say that Danko has kind of carved his own genre of music. Not prototypical Hard Rock, without a lot of flash and bells and whistles. Straight up, a shot to the chops that always brings you back wanting more. There’s no ballads, no bullshit, no filler, all killer. Danko will be the first to tell you he is not a virtuoso guitar player, so his songwriting kind of maneuvers around that as his songs are usually filled with enough lyrics for 2 songs. It’s not a bad thing at all, it’s unique and it works.

The songs are POWER TRIO are no different than what you’d expect – short and to the point. Some bouncy yet punchy tunes with a Punk Rock attitude. “Blue Jean Denim Jumpsuit” best typifies that – cool and sleek and catchy as all Hell! Songs like “Start The Show”, “I Want Out” and “Saturday” may show that Danko and his cohorts are tired of the World being on Lockdown as the lyrics and attitude seems to be like they’re telling us all what we all want for things to be back to the way they were so we ALL can get and enjoy our lives.

Danko is accompanied by his right hand man JC (John Calabrese) – his long time Bass player, and Rich Knox on drums. The band has had a revolving drum throne but Knox has been a solid member for quite a while now, giving the band stability and these 2 deliver a great backbeat that isn’t always just thumping along. There are a lot of “busy” sections behind Danko’s guitar & vocals but it is in a subtle way so it doesn’t take over the songs.  Then you get a song with that punk rock feel and attitude I spoke about earlier like “Flaunt it” —-

So when August 27, 2021 rolls around, do yourself a favor and pick up POWER TRIO. If you enjoy straight ahead, no BS rock n roll played LOUD, this is FOR YOU!!!
