First off thanks to FLY PR & AFM RECORDS for getting us this album in advance! I have been a big fan of the band since around the time their album NEVER TOO LOUD came out in 2008. The early 2000’s was tough for hard rock and metal music, and Danko Jones & Turbonegro were 2 bands I had just discovered and helped me cope with all the shitty music that was coming out around that time. So the band comes at us in 2019 with A ROCK SUPREME and I couldn’t be happier!!!

The album kicks off with the song “I’M IN A BAND” and during the chorus Danko Jones barks out and tells us that he’s in a band, and he loves it. For those of you that might follow Danko himself on social media, you will know that these lyrics are obvious truth. It’s hard to find another human more into being in a band, and into music in general. If you’ve never heard the band before, it is nothing more than 3 guys playing kick ass rock n roll, and delivered with a certain vibrato, an attitude with their chests pushed out as if to say “fuck the world, we rock!”. There’s all sorts of styles and influences coming through in the band’s music. Unique for sure. While it’s not basic, there’s no crazy shedding going on. The interesting thing about Danko’s song writing is he seems to use more words/lyrics than most artists. This is really exemplified in the song simply titled “PARTY” – the lyrics almost as act as another instrument to add to the melodies, very unique and cool. Also in the song “FISTS UP HIGH”.

Then, just when you think you got it kinda figured out, the band throws in a song like “DANCE” – with groove and a really fun feel to it. You can watch the video, shared above(by the way, it was filmed with one camera, one take – totally live so give those girls some props!!). You also get some up-tempo rockers with AC/DC-ish riffs like “YOU GOT TODAY”  and “LIPSTICK CITY” —- OK, maybe some AC/DC riffage but the songs take a much different turn. This is another band with all killer and no filler, DANKO JONES is an ass kicking machine of a band, and it’s namesake has all the rock n roll attitude for the entire industry! LOL! I love these guys and this is another great album to add to their already wealthy catalog!  Check out the videos I posted here for a prime example of what you’re in for when you discover Danko Jones – be prepared for a fun ride!!!
