Band Bio:
Blaxem are a modern metal band from Chile, the deep south of the world! Founded in 2021, the band consists of Dann Hidalgo (vocals and guitar), Guille Malatesta (lead guitar), Chelo Romanini (bass and backing vocals), and Robert Unger (drums), and as far as philosophy, it is proven on their exciting debut EP: Ethereal, that the music is a salute to the grand tradition of metal, while offering all of us something brand new. Are the songs devastatingly heavy? You bet they are. Do the lyrics reflect real-world issues with raw and unvarnished honesty? Darned straight they do, and so we wonder if the theme here is overall darkness. And the answer? Not quite. Interpreting desolation without becoming a part of it is tricky business, but Blaxem walks the tightrope with verve and expertise, shaping each chord to represent a mature and complex way to see things, even dark starless gloom, with hope, with spirit and empathy. Gaining inspiration from bands like Spiritbox and Bleed From Within, Blaxem take great pride in never losing the soul of a song and burning their name into the world as dedicated recording artists as well as explosive aesthetic messengers when they play live. In other words, the music isn’t just made up of notes and clever time signatures. It is an experience, yielding comfort and joy in dark times like a beacon of light accompanied by a distinct heavy feel that rings true. Ironically, while the band has a distinct immediacy, a “live feel” that stings your heart and buzzes your bones, they also utilize intricate studio layering techniques that, at times, make the guitars sound orchestral, and the vocal like a haunt of medieval choral distortion (and of course, the sweetest of harmonies). Blaxem have supported keynote bands such as I am Morbid, Arcurus, and Ensiferum, and they look forward to the concert halls, arenas and festivals that will become the ultimate platforms for their vision: to write and perform the heaviest groove audiences have ever felt and provide a show that will be a life-changing epiphany. Previously, the band put out the album, Who Cares and featured the singles: “Our End,” “Mad,” and “Caelis,” building the monument so to speak, fortifying the foundation. As for the new EP, Ethereal, it is more than a statement piece. It is the key for us all that will open up the door to the wide world of metal, constructed of treasured tropes, prized styles, long-savored subgenres, and our shared grand metal heritage, embraced and then built upon with passion and love. And since Dann Hidalgo is also the project’s sound engineer, recording, producing, mixing, and mastering the product, often executed and delivered from different locations simultaneously, we can all be assured that the music is pure Blaxem, down through the roots that stretch deep through the earth.
