Black Sun is an Ecuadorian-Finnish melodic heavy metal band that has undergone a remarkable evolution since its inception. Originally formed in Ecuador by Nicolas Estrada (drums), Christopher Grünberg (guitar), and Santiago Salem (bass), the band’s journey took an exciting turn when they collaborated with Finnish producer/mixing engineer and Thunderstone guitarist Nino Laurenne on their release “Silent Enemy.”

This collaboration sparked a musical kinship that led to Nino joining Black Sun as a guitarist. “After working with the guys as their producer, we became really good friends,” Nino explains. “Joining Black Sun really got me stoked about playing in a band again, and I can’t wait to hit the stage with Santiago, Nicolas, and Christopher.”

The band’s transformation continued with the addition of singer Netta Laurenne (known for Smackbound and Laurenne/Louhimo) as the new lead vocalist. Netta shares her enthusiasm: “Black Sun is a band born and based on friendship. Getting to spend time and play music together is awesome.”

This unique fusion of Ecuadorian and Finnish talent has created a one-of-a-kind musical entity, symbolizing a rebirth for Black Sun. The new lineup wasted no time entering the studio to record a full-length album at Hi Noiz Studio and Sonic Pump Studios. With Nino Laurenne at the helm of production and mixing, and mastering by the renowned Svante Forsback (known for his work with Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Volbeat, and Amaranthe), the album promises to be a powerful showcase of their evolved sound.

The original members, Santiago, Nicolas, and Christopher, are thrilled about the band’s new direction: “The songwriting approach was completely refreshed when Nino and Netta joined. We were able to explore more complex rhythmical and heavier approaches. Having Netta on vocals allows us to explore wider ranges and navigate into different waters. We’re super excited for people to get to know our new sound.”

With this revitalized lineup and fresh creative energy, Black Sun is poised to make a significant impact on the melodic heavy metal scene, bridging continents and cultures through their music.
