Anyone who has been following me and my site know by now that I am longtime Metal pounding ANVIL fan! I’ve given the band so many accolades, all well deserved, and in return they have and continue to provide the world with glorious metal masterpieces! Their newest offering is no different, the album ONE AND ONLY is a collection of songs that sums up what Anvil has been for many years – Quintessential METAL!!!

There is so much going on this album – the usual ride that Anvil takes you on with face melting tunes like “Blind Rage”, “Fight For Your Rights” and “Dead Man Shoes”. There is also a few nods to the major influence of Black Sabbath with slower and very heavy riff laden tunes like “Heartbroken” and “Truth Is Dying”. Really love the fun feel to “Run Away” too!!

The musicianship, as always, is top notch on this album as this line up for the band, Steve ‘Lips’ Kudlow (Vocals/Guitar),
Robb Reiner (Drums), Chris Robertson (Bass/Vocals) gel and continue to grow. The usage of background vocals has never been as prominent, clever and accurate as it is on this album. This aspect of the band just keeps improving every album. “World of Fools”, “Feed Your Fantasy” and “Feed Your Fantasy” are prime examples.

One thing of notice is the lyrical content isn’t full of sexual innuendos – and that’s fine. Lips has always been one of heavy metal’s most unique and beautiful minds, so it’s always great to see and hear his social commentary on the World. Lips has been under appreciated as a vocalist & guitarist in my eyes. He deserves to be held in high regard as Anvil is a testament to time, and he has been there every step of the way. Along for that ride has been drummer Rob Reiner. One of, if not THE best drummers the rock world has ever known. Chris Robinson continues to impress with with his solid bass playing and ability to compliment Lips with his backing vocals.

Anvil was one of the first metal bands the World embraced and there’s no stopping them. ONE AND ONLY is another great collection of songs with many different feels and moods, it’s everything ANVIL has been and everything metal should be! Whether you’re old school or new school, you need to go to Anvil University LOL! Get ONE AND ONLY and witness why Anvil is one of the most influential metal bands of all time!!!!
