“Red Divine” marks the first official single from AMONGRUINS’ new album “Advent of Chaos”, showcasing the band’s expanded melodic death metal sound… darker, heavier, and more emotionally charged than ever.
Blending searing riffs, punishing rhythms, and immersive atmospheres, “Red Divine” sets the tone for the chaos to come. This lyric video invites you deeper into the album’s apocalyptic vision and its themes of destruction, rebirth, and inner turmoil.
AmongRuins – Advent of Chaos
AmongRuins will be returning in two months time, particularly in the 20th of February, with their newest and fourth official release, entitled “Advent of Chaos”. Having already established their place in the melodic death metal scene, they once again return triumphantly, with a work that will solidify that place, while moving AmongRuins forward. Hopefully, this will be the record that will introduce them to an even larger audience, achieving that breakthrough that so rightly deserve.
Evidently and apparently, Greece has brood quite the metal scene through the years. AmongRuins is just another example of this, blasting through with their own musical agenda. They deliver their sound, in their own way and style, with no compromises and that is what makes their upcoming release such a fun listening experience. There was a variety of ideas, some of them a bit unorthodox in the broader, traditional sense, since we are talking about a Melodic death metal band. Should we be honest, when it comes to death metal we tend to cling to the comfort of traditions and of the familiar. AmongRuins find balance between modernity and tradition, offering their own performed opinion on the matter, through the “Advent of Chaos”.
“Frozen to the Core” commences the attack. Straightforward, undiluted melodic death metal, heavy and appropriately and fittingly epic, the “Advent of Chaos” begins with mass and volume. Aggression and melody find perfect balance, with the melodic lines intertwining with the death metal riffing in a flawless result that does absolutely hooks the listener. In the same manner, “Advent of Chaos”, the second track of the album, follows with a marching feel, and an anthemic tone. The addition of clean vocals offers a tone of “lucidity”, cutting through the gnarling growls. Singing at the top of his lungs, every lyric feels like it’s trying to be heard through the chaos, marking it for a great performance.
“Red Divine” the third track, comes in with force and speed, delivering a much more fast paced style, with a thrash aggression, raw and in-you-face. It’s the perfect pit opener for the live performances, a song to fire up the most-pits and make the blood boil. After all it is called “Red Divine”, how fitting.
At this point, AmongRuins are making a slight detour, with the song “Into the Flame”. A great vocal performance is delivered by Christianna of Elysion, an extraordinary singer with a crystal clear voice. Fittingly, AmongRuins have delivered a modern, death metal-influenced track, grand and bright, with chugging riffs, core-inspired breakdowns, while the growls work as compliment to the clarity of her singing. A melodic death metal track, with a contemporary twist.
“A Symphony of Loss” returns to the speedy, melodic death roots. It is to the point, fast, aggressive, melodic, glued by exceptional playing and delivery, making it a fun listening experience to break your neck to.
Two songs before the finishing line, “Open Wounds” gathers dark clouds. The so-far extrovert death metal sound that we got accustomed to, turns bleak, like all the color has abandoned it. With George Prokopiou of Mother of Millions on vocal duty, AmongRuins deliver a gloomy, slow-paced, doom infused song that is simply brilliant and I have to admit, it ismy favorite track on this record. It has that retrospective Insomnium sound, but is its own, bleak and crushing creation.
“Chained”, the seventh song of the album, offers a gritty, thrashy sound, fairly vibrant considering the darkness that was the “Open Wounds”. A refined track, reminiscent of the late years of God Dethroned, with groovier riffs and an americanized style, unlike the rest which was developed according to the northern European influences.
Last but not least, the “Night Mother” is the grand finale. One of the best songs on the album and a testament as to why At The Gates has been so influential, AmongRuins close this amazing record with a raw yet clean, explosive yet melodic, ‘90s yet modern enough death metal song, that like a great dessert leaves a lasting aftertaste.
