1. We welcome Accidental President! When did you form the band? What’s the band’s current lineup?
Thank you for inviting us! The band was formed back in 2015 and is now in what you could call it’s second or possibly 3rd incarnation. The current lineup is Dahlia Neville on Lead vocals, Dave Ben Lee Guitars & Vocals, Jimmy James Drums.

2. What’s your discography so far?
We started off with a couple of EP’s – The King is Dead & 100 days, followed by our debut eponymous album a couple of years back. We’ve now got a new single out called ‘Ready Kid?’ & are leading up to our second album later this year called ‘Was it meant to be this way?’

3. You have a new single out there. What’s been the people’s response to Ready Kid so far?
 It’s been very enthusiastic & we’ve been shown a lot of love. So thanks to everyone and keep spreading the word!

4. Ready Kid? will be featured on your upcoming album. Please tell us a few words about it.
Ready Kid? is asking the proverbial coming of age question about facing the big wide world – Are you ready? And ‘Was it meant to be this way’ is a thematic album reflecting on the state of the modern world, so Ready Kid? finds a place within that.

5. How would you describe with words your music style?

Female fronted Alternative Rock – Hard Rock – Alternative metal – with Theatrical Flair!

6. What’s the Australian scene of today like?

It’s very healthy creatively right across the board. Australia is such a large place with a population spread far and wide and within that there are a number of genres that have big followings – Rock, Indie, Hiphop, Blues, Country, Pop, Indigenous

7. Which bands and which particular albums would make a top 5 of your influences?

Led Zeppelin – Physical Graffiti, Alter Bridge – Fortress, Queensryche – Operation Mindcrime, Dream Theater – Systematic Chaos, The Wall – Pink Floyd,

8. You have played live guitars for the also Australian band Crosson. Please share your experience.
I met Jason in 2019 when he was putting the band (back) together to take on the road after a hiatus & had a great time pulling it together and performing LIVE. Jason likes to put on a show and that’s also my background – giving the audience something to rock out & escape into. We recorded ‘Live at the Orpheum’ in 2021 – which captured the essence of Crosson LIVE very well but I had to jump ship after that due to complications around Covid & needing to focus on our new album.

9. Do you enjoy going out live with Accidental President?
Yes I do. I’ve always played LIVE, it’s part in my DNA & LIVE was very much the core of AP when we started out, very much informing our sound & feel.

10. What’s your typical way to composing an Accidental President song?

I tend to come up with riffs or chord sequences or get some stimulus from drums or maybe a synth & then record it and forget about it for a while so that when I come back to review ideas it’s very clinical about whether something sounds good and worth developing or not. Dahlia tends to approach things from a lyrical perspective & passes ideas on to me to develop in AP’s style.

11. What do you enjoy writing lyrics for?

I probably enjoy writing music more that lyrics tbh and I find quite often that the music informs the lyrics almost subconsciously in that there’s obviously something I need to express but it’s the music that brings it out. Dahlia conversely is perhaps more of a lyricist/poet and having expressed herself in that way she puts it to music. Ultimately it’s all self expression – & getting your thoughts down in an artistic way.
